Resumo:Transgender women and men and non-binary people face prejudice and discrimination. To comprehend the impacts of this phenomenon, reliable and valid measures that consider the diversity of transgender identities and its implications, are necessary. In Portugal, there is a lack of instruments that capture prejudice against transgender people, especially against non binary people. Therefore, this investigation consists in four different studies that seek to adapt and validate the Prejudice against Transgender People Scales (PTS) to the Portuguese context, developing a new parallel scale: Prejudice against Non-binary People Scale (PTS-NB). Study 1a (N = 9) and 1b (N = 28) addressed the PTS’s items adaptation, including PTS-NB, and conducted its content validity. Study 2 (N = 488) tested the PTS factorail structure and the quality of its items through exploratory factor analysis and item response theory analysis. The results demonstrated that all PTS parallel scales have a unidimensional structure, that PTS items are discriminatory, and that PTS positively correlates with social dominance orientation, a right-wing political orientation and prejudice against sexual and gender diversity. Finally, in Study 3 (N = 204), we conducted a confirmatory factor analysis to all PTS parallel scales and confirmed the one factor structure obtained in Study 2. Overall, the studies demonstrated that the PTS is valid and reliable to evaluate prejudice against transgender women and men and non-binary people in the Portuguese context. Future avenues for research are outlined.
