| Summary: | This paper briefly presents and partially edits a set of prayers and spiritual meditations of a monk from the monastery of Alcobaça, preserved in the manuscript of the BNP - Alc. CCLXXIV/212 fls. 252-282, datable to the mid-fifteenth century. These mystical meditations, although anonymous, are a rare and important testimony of the standard of religious living and feeling within the most important Cistercian Portuguese community, which has at the time, gone through an important, but hardly known, period of cultural and intellectual renewal. |
