Resumo:In the Life of Publicola Plutarch rejects poverty and self-sufficiency attributted to the hero by the sources offering instead a rich Statesman picture characterized by generosity and humanity on behalf of the needy ones. In this paper I try to prove that the authentic virtues which Plutarch wants to underline in connection with the Publicola’s use of whealth are his generosity and his humanity. The hero uses these virtues as an instrument to favour the people and to make effective his voluntary political commitment with the Roman republic.
