As Intervenções Sobre Arquitectura Corrente em Centros Históricos Portugueses: Caracterização e Análise Crítica de Casos Paradigmáticos
| Resumo: | It was attempted, with this research, to identify the place of the "old current residential building in historic centre" in the present context of recovery, intervention and protection of the built heritage, based on the official strategies of action that focused directly or indirectly on this type building over time, and ending with the analysis of the results of the application of these strategies in the case of the Historic Centre of Oporto (Portugal). This research assumes that the old current buildings have unique characteristics, but that the guidelines for interventions update they face have not been worked specifically, but casually incorporated in approaches directed to the intervention of the new current architecture, or of monumental architecture, or as a part of an urban solution. In this regard, questions the effective contribution of the actions to the repositioning of these buildings in the society, when it aims to improve their longevity conditions, not only as construction but also as housing and cultural reference. Propose as a case study, the evaluation of buildings in residential or mixed use, with a partial or total occupation, whether or not subject to institutional interventions in the Historic Centre of Oporto. The examination of the case was held on two scales: the urban ambience (considering the external appearance and characteristics of the current buildings, taking as sample 16 blocks); and, more specifically, the housing in use (35 units total or partially visited), to see if between "intervention" and "non-intervention" it´s possible to perceive trends to follow, that consider not only the material and cultural conservation, but also enable their housing function (using the guidelines Analysis Post-occupation with surveys carried out with the residents and guided tours). As a result (besides the presentation of the fundamentals that support the context of the analysis and the reflections that come to conclusion), the data collected and organized, ranging from the temporal organization of the documents that guide actions not only on cultural heritage, but also on housing and the urban context, including international, national and local levels, to the record of the present situation in the Historic Centre of Porto. In a purposeful reflection are still presented four perspectives for the observation of the old current residential building, looking to repositioning the problem involved with the subject. It was noted in both the international and the national context, from the past to the present, that the here introduced typology appears incipient in the guidelines and proposals for intervention, with few specific proposals, and subject to other external pressures from the context of architectural solutions, although seen as a problem to be addressed. The perception of that type of building was located, time and geographically with particular solutions with low reproducibility on a large scale as they present significant changes in buildings and intervened environments although do not represent significant improvements in quality of life housing from the point of view of the users. The most recurrent problems in housing refer to constructive characteristics of interventions and gaps in preventive and corrective maintenance processes. The buildings with a greater resistance of old features are those with less purposeful intervention, although in these the housing comfort is not guaranteed. |
