Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This study aims to highlight the importance of the pharmacist in the scope of veterinary hospital pharmacies. The authors conclusions were based on extensive review of Brazilian legislation and its respective resolutions, scientific bibliographies and the authors’ respective work experiences at the University Veterinary Hospital of Santa Maria (UVH). Considering that the pharmacist's competence is focused on human health, the pharmacist lacks knowledge of the veterinary area (especially at the hospital level), considering all aspects of animal nature and the management process of a hospital pharmacy. Thus, the participation of other professionals in the veterinary field becomes essential to achieving excellence in the provided service. However, the pharmacist is still the most qualified specialist regarding the pharmaceutical attention, maintenance, handling, dispensing and correct use of drugs as well as the management of a veterinary hospital pharmacy. Therefore, this professional together with the technical staff in this environment is essential to ensuring animal health and welfare and working to provide quality service.
