MODERNISM: “ORPHEU” AND “PRESENÇA”

Resumo:This article aims to explain Modernism, as a cultural movement which began in Portugal, in the first decades of the twentieth century. As a result of the European influence, several Portuguese artists, from painters to writers took part in this phenomenon, such as: Fernando Pessoa, Mário de Sá-Carneiro and Almada Negreiros. They were responsible for the appearance of the Orpheu magazine, which corresponded to the first phase of the Portuguese Modernism. The second phase was distinguished by the periodic publication called Presença, in 1927. The influence of this movement on the numerous forms of artistic expression, the Portuguese society and culture are some of the aspects developed in our project.
