Resumo:A revision of the chestnut tree pests in Portugal is presented with a special remark to the major insect species that cause losses on chestnut tree. The chestnut fruit pests, chestnut moth (Cydia pnekleriana) and chestnut weevil (Curculio elephas), concerning the intensity of attack estimates in Portugal, damages on chestnuts morphology of the species, life cycle, and population dynamics are described.The cultural, physiological, chemical and biological control methods concerning the chestnut fruit pests are presented and discussed in this paper. A special remark is done on the discussion of the effects of the soil tillage practices on the pests and on the ink-disease. An integrated pest management approach, concerning the chestnut pests problems, is emphasized.
