Bibliographic Details
Summary:Introduction: Pregnancy and childbirth cause important changes in women, particularly in the abdominal and pelvic muscles, with a risk of developing functional changes in the short, medium and long term. Objective: To analyze the effects of the motor and sensory functional re-education program of the abdominal and pelvic muscles in postpartum women. Methodology: Mixed study of exploratory and descriptive nature. Seven postpartum women participated in the study. The variables analyzed before and after implementation of the program were: low back pain, pelvic pain, weight, BMI, abdominal perimeter, rectus abdominis diastasis and pelvic muscle strength, sphincter incontinence. The instruments used were: Women's Characterization Questionnaire, International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form; semi structured interview. Results: The 7 women were primiparous. It was found that the implemented rehabilitation program contributed to a reduction in low back pain (-28.6%) and pelvic pain (-14.3%), a reduction in diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles at all monitoring points, a reduction in complaints of sphincter incontinence and increased perineal strength (3 +-1.155 to 4.29+- 0.75). Women demonstrated greater knowledge and skill about abdominal and pelvic muscle rehabilitation exercises, revealed a perception of greater strength, less sagging and less pain, expressed feelings of surprise, satisfaction and importance of professional support. Conclusion: The implemented program had a positive effect on the abdominal and pelvic muscles of postpartum women. The study highlights knowledge for clinical practice, namely for the intervention of the specialist nurse in rehabilitation nursing, with a view to health gains in these women.
