Bioreactor: general configuration, classification, and bioreactor types
| Resumo: | Bioreactors are a key part of any industrial bioprocess. Despite the numerous alternatives available, choosing a suitable reactor is often the starting point of a successful and optimized system. Considering the specificities of the process to be implemented and the target microorganism or product, different reactors provide favorable conditions or constitute a hurdle to operational performance. Seven types of bioreactors are addressed in this chapter, and some of their variants, as well as major advantages and disadvantages, are described. The classification of bioreactors according to their operational mode is also discussed. |
