Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This research provides an in-depth analysis of the Portuguese hide trade in the port of Valencia from 1465 to 1500, based on the records of the Dret portugués. By delivering accurate numbers on this trade, and by identifying the commercial agents involved, it elucidates on the commercial strategies employed in hide trade operations carried out at this specific port and attempts a comparison with other hide trade flows that took place in the West Mediterranean during the second half of the 15th century. The special focus on the role played by Portuguese agents in the international hide market also contributes to a more profound knowledge on the Portuguese presence in the Mediterranean in the early Age of Discovery.
