Teaching students to participate in health education : a study about action-oriented in-service teacher training in sex education

Resumo:Student participation has become a central aspect on various levels of international debate regarding health education teacher training and evaluation of health education projects. Participation is a prerequisite to develop student action competence and a result of that process. A participatory action-research constituted by Portuguese teachers (N=86) from 16 schools having as one of its objectives to investigate how teachers´ practices on Sex Education change during in-service teacher training, was carried out. These results and their implications in terms of health education teacher training and the organization and management of the Portuguese school curriculum will be presented.
