Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This paper, still in its preliminary phase, explores the presence and portrayal of Galicians in some of the earliest Portuguese non-fiction (documentary) and fiction films, with the aim of identifying the traits through which this group is represented cinematically. To do so, it considers the image of this immigrant community as it was perceived in Portugal, particularly in Lisbon, during the early decades of the 20th century. The analysis focuses on a corpus composed of three documentaries (A Água Que Se Bebe, 1929–1932; Alfama, 1930; Graça, 1930) and two fiction or “plot-driven” films—as they were called at the time—(Os Crimes de Diogo Alves, 1911; A Canção de Lisboa, 1933).
