Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This text aims to discuss the meaning of the meritocratic agenda in the educational sphere and its relationship with the workplace. First, the aim is to reflect on the development of the meritocratic culture in the school system and its effects on the access of young people into the labor market. In a second moment, a critical approach is taken to the conceptions of excellence valued in the school universe and in the labor market. From the methodological point of view, we use quantitative data (an extensive method, focused on the analysis of the rituals of distinction implemented in the state school) and qualitative (intensive method, based on four case studies) collected for a research developed between 2012 and 2015. The results show that excellence has become an important reference in the life of contemporary institutions, being possible to signal its effects on the ways of regulating education and work. On the other hand, it can be seen that the model of excellence induced by school culture is based on values and dispositions not always reconcilable with the model of excellence required by work organizations.
