A holistic perspective on risk and protective factors for language development in the early years and early identification of communication disorders
| Resumo: | Communication and language development are key to a child's cognitive, social, and overall well- being. While many children develop language skills despite risk factors, language development is vulnerable to various challenges, impacting academic performance, employment, and mental health. Early identification and intervention are crucial for achieving positive outcomes for children at risk of atypical language development. Such approaches must be collaborative, involving families, healthcare professionals, and educators. A literature review explored the impact of risk and protective factors on language development in children aged 0- 3 years, emphasizing the skills that predict early language growth. Understanding these factors is vital for effective prevention, early identification, and targeted interventions, which help prevent long- term issues by addressing language development challenges early. These interventions are essential for mitigating the compounded risks many children face, promoting healthier communication skills and better life outcomes. |
