Subjects like Organizational Learning, Knowledge Management, and Standardization are some topics that companies need to master. When successfully implemented they can give a company a competitive advantage against their rivals. To help implement these topics a tool that can be used are Handbooks. Typically, a Handbook is a sort of guidelines and procedures that help the collaborators of a company on a daily basis. It is not all the knowledge management process, but can be part of it. It can harbour many solutions to a set of problems and in time of need can provide assistance to collaborators. Due to the complexity and the continuous growth of the Engineering and Development Department in Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal, the existing information is not meeting the teams’ needs and the existing guidelines are not consistent. This was the base for the creation of the Engineering Department Handbook, which structure was defined in a previous project. The main goal of this project was to validate and give content to this Handbook. To achieve this objective a case study methodology was applied. The project began with an analysis of the previous work. After that, some changes were made in terms of structure and presentation of the Handbook. A description of the product development process for the different areas that constitutes the department was made. Work Instructions for general department subjects were created and in parallel to this, content was being added to the Handbook. In terms of contributes, the main ones were related to the structure of the Handbook, the way that was presented, the addition of new content and the update of existent content. |
