Use of mixed reality to teach stem subjects: Guidelines for the use of Mixed Reality to teach STEM in Portugal
| Resumo: | Many organizations and countries are appealing for the information system to innovate and disrupt their legacy systems in many sectors, to be more effective and distinguished from their competitors. The education system is one of these areas that should be innovated since it is one of the key tools for any society’s success. Due to rapid changes and increased complexity, the present world demands for a new education system, aiming to improve the students’ agility and flexibility in a highly demanding environment. Our study aims to propose the use of Mixed Reality (MR) in the Portuguese education system, namely to teach STEM subjects to high school students, given its proven benefits to both teachers and students’ performances. Based on a specific case study, related to the creation of the HoloAnatomy app by the CWRU and the Cleveland Clinic (USA), as well as on this technology’s successful learning outcomes, we present our own suggestion of MR technology to implement in the education system, comprising four subjects and some corresponding contents, based on a similar development path. |
