Poetry as a learning resource in the EFL classroom
| Resumo: | This Master's report examines the use of poetry in the EFL classroom to enhance student engagement, communicative language competences, and critical thinking skills. Through a practicum that primarily focused on integrating poetry into Year 11 lessons while also teaching a Year 9 class, the study employed an action research methodology involving observation, planning, implementation, and reflection to systematically improve teaching practices. Focusing on universal themes such as environmental issues, the approach connected poetic texts to real-world contexts, enriching students' understanding and engagement. Findings indicate significant improvements in the aforementioned parameters, demonstrating poetry's effectiveness as a learning resource in fostering both linguistic and cognitive development in EFL students. |
