Resumo:"Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is one of the biggest health problems in the world. Glucagon like peptide-1, an endogenous gastrointestinal incretin hormone that stimulates insulin secretion, is considered an attractive therapeutic agent for T2DM treatment. Nevertheless, its short half-life has led to the development of longer half-life GLP-1 analogues, as exenatide. Still, current dosage forms for exenatide delivery are not exempt of shortcomings. Nanotechnology-based systems may offer several advantages over conventional dosage forms for drug delivery.(...)"
