Fractional ownership through the tokenization of blue-chip artworks, chances and challenges for the art market-s dynamics - on the case of the German company arttrade
| Resumo: | The blockchain will significantly disrupt the traditional art market and enables the issuance of security tokens of physical assets, allowing the fractional ownership of highly priced art. This work project provides clarity on the implications of fractionalizing blue-chip artworks through tokens and examines the emerging chances and challenges for the art market. First a theoretical framework was established based on the existing literature, deriving four assumptions. Secondly, the qualitative interviews with art and blockchain experts identified five main themes. Based on the analysis of the findings, a discussion of interviews and literature provided assumptions on increased supply, financial implications, access possibilities for buyers and a changing market structure of the traditional art market dynamics. Keywords: tokenization, blockchain, art market, fractional ownership, blue-chip ar |
