Managing impact risks in venture capital: a study of the mustard seed maze portfolio using the impact management project framework
| Resumo: | This study evaluates the relationship between impact risks and impact performance within MSM’s portfolio, leveraging the Impact Management Project (IMP) framework. A mixed methods approach was applied to assess nine impact risks across 37 ventures, using quantitative and qualitative analyses. Findings reveal that risks such as low efficiency and evidence risk significantly correlate with impact performance, underscoring the need for balanced strategies. To address these risks, a tailored pre-investment risk assessment framework was developed, integrating actionable mitigation strategies into MSM's Investment Memo. This framework bridges risk identification with management, aligning with MSM’s lockstep model for achieving both financial and impact objectives. |
