Exploring the links between legal form and financial sustainability of hybrid organizations: challenges of the Portuguese context

Resumo:This study investigates the adaptive strategies that social organizations in Portugal employ to cope with the absence of a dedicated legal form for social enterprises. It employs an inductive approach to explore how they thrive within this legal constraint. Sustainability factors, notably diversification of revenue sources, emerge as pivotal for financial resilience. Challenges include ineligibility for certain public funds due to their legal forms. Self-sustainability strategies are employed to navigate constraints. This research sheds light on the adaptability and resilience of social organizations, offering insights which can help promote social entrepreneurship in Portugal
