Factors influencing organizational culture to change and transform towards the perceptions of telework in Portugal in a post-pandemic scenario from a managerial perspective
| Resumo: | Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, telework has become essential to maintain market competitiveness and business continuity. This method of work had a big impact on companies, where small and medium-sized enterprises were more affected as they were not well equipped when compared to large companies. Since Covid-19 forced teleworking, it is essential to study the perception of workers towards the challenges of this sudden change, but also to understand the perspectives of organizations and employees with high positions. This is because employees with high positions have the power to decide whether and how telework is implemented. After much research and an extensive literature review, it was possible to verify that there are few studies on this topic in this period after the pandemic, especially on the relationship between telework and organizational culture. In addition, this lack of studies is even more pronounced because there is also little research on telework and organizational culture, mainly in companies in Portugal and even more with data collected from professionals with high positions within companies. The lack of academic literature on this subject is a research gap. Therefore, the objective of this research is to deeply understand the company’s policies, procedures, and organizational culture, taking into account the adoption of telework and its impact. The guiding research question of this study is: “How has organizational culture shifted and transformed towards the perceptions of telework in Portugal”. This research conducted a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews to business owners or professionals working in human resources or administrative departments. In this study we understood the vision of companies regarding telework, the type of organizational culture of each company and got results to provide the research with additional insights. |
