Translations for Everyone: An Accessibility Assistant for translators and project coordinators
| Resumo: | This project aims to generate an assistant that will provide translators and project coordinators with a useful tool, which will convert a standard file to a large print file. The automatized tech solution will intend to accommodate certain parameters that will ease the reading for people with visual impairments, i.e. limited or almost no vision. It will also accentuate the need to continue striving to improve and promote accessibility in the translation sector, assuring that visually impaired people have equal access to information and services, regardless of barriers or disabilities. Communication and translation are key to ensuring greater comprehension between various groups, as well as cultural exchange between individuals around the world. Advances in technology have enhanced the interaction between different social groups, such as the development of machine translation, which allows better communication regardless of the possible language barrier. Meanwhile, some of these advances have also encompassed individuals with some kind of disability, which can lead to certain types of communication barriers. To be precise, the visually impaired community is a group that faces challenges in accessing information, for instance, healthcare information, due to a lack of accessible material. These challenges may be overcome by promoting and implementing the best practices in alternative formats. Software development has facilitated the creation of auxiliary tools aimed at enabling computer users to adapt the format of their translations and work to all types of end users. The aim this project is to create one of these auxiliary tools, consisting of two macros. |
