Determinants that impact the learning of agile software development methodologies
| Resumo: | Serious games are an immersive, fun, and motivating way to learn a wide range of topics. Through them, people can learn something and at the same time have fun. The potential of serious games is especially useful when the topic to learn requires well-trained, motivated, and engaged people. Motivation and commitment are key drivers to successfully implement agile software development methodologies. To realize the full potential of serious games in the context of learning agile software development methodologies I need to understand the determinants that impact the learning outcome. Some determinants can be taken into consideration as engagement, speed of learning, the efficacy of training, motivation for the topic, playfulness, player immersion, and mastery of the topic. I propose a theoretical model to identify the determinants of agile software development methodologies (ASMD) learning, and empirically measure these determinants through software development practitioners. The model has been empirically validated with 243 questionnaires and through a quantitative method of the Partial Least Squares/Structural Equation Modeling (PLS/SEM) method. The results prove that serious games, when applied in learning agile software methodologies, have a positive impact on the learner’s motivation and their learning outcome. |
