Resumo:The study “Surgery during the Peninsular Wars” results from an investigation focused on the surgical procedures in the Anglo-Luso Army. We will show a multitude of surgical procedures and the great challenges presented to the surgeons in the first contacts with the war wounded. We report the work of surgeons at the front lines and in field hospitals and the controversies about the techniques of incision of fragile limb tissues before initiating the surgery and about the exact moment of amputation after injury.
