Competitive balance analysis European football: addition of in-game data

Ver documento

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Research concerning Competitve Balance (CB) in football has produced mixed results. Literature suggests this is due to inappropriateness of measuring techniques and data. This paper discusses whether using in-game data can provide added value in conducting CB analysis. It describes conventional analytical methods and provides an investigation of top football leagues employing in-game data. Findings include that, while actual scores are more imbalanced than performances suggest, some teams consistently manage to overachieve relative to performance. The significance of results emphasizes the value from in-game data. The paper concludes by eliciting two areas for regulation, redistribution of money and talent.
