Implementing AI in insurtech startups: challenges and strategies for success: excellence in claims management: how can insurers win in a context of rising costs

Resumo:This study examines how insurtech startups address the challenges of integrating AI into their internal processes by leveraging 12 semi-structured interviews with founders and AI practitioners from insurtech and tech startups. Thematic analysis revealed key barriers, including data fragmentation, AI reliability issues, and data governance risks, alongside human factors such as cultural resistance and unrealistic expectations. Findings underscore the critical role of building AI knowledge, fostering continuous learning, and empowering "AI champions" within insurtechs. Providing practical strategies and an organisational structure for effective AI adoption, highlighting the need for robust data practices, phased implementation, and human oversight in AI integration.
