Resumo:This paper examines factors influencing consumer adoption of Central Bank Digital Currencies in retail settings. Using survey data and expert interviews, it explores which design features drive adoption and what would motivate users to switch from existing payment methods. The findings show that practical features such as app integration, low fees, and broad acceptance matter more for adoption than normative concerns like trust or privacy. Behavioural factors like habit and hesitation toward unfamiliar systems also play a key role. The study contributes comparative evidence to CBDC research and offers strategic recommendations for policymakers and private-sector stakeholders.
