The impact of minimum wages on worker flows

Ver documento

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Nowadays, the minimum wage has been instituted in most countries. This paper contributes to the vast literature regarding the impact of the minimum wage on employment. The present study analyzes worker flows at both the firm and worker level, while also focusing on the share of youth worker flows. The results suggest that for continuing firms the minimum wage increases worker flows, especially hires, which indicates a rise in employment for these firms. Interestingly, the impact on younger workers is very similar. Another important conclusion from this study is that opening and closing firms during minimum wage hikes seem to have a higher share of young workers.
