As eleições ultramarinas de 1973
| Resumo: | This paper examines the election, validity, and extinction of the Legislative Assembly and the Provincial Advisory Board of Mozambique, institutions that the 1972 Organic Law of Overseas Territories renamed and expanded in powers, and which we understand as microcosms of colonial reformism during the Marcelo Caetano era. We analyze the persistence of the central state's power over the territory, particularly through the preponderance of the Governor-General, which prevented the transformation of these structures into instruments of political renewal or neocolonial transition. We also highlight the reproduction of the racial hierarchy of late Portuguese colonialism, evident in the overrepresentation of socially intermediate groups, namely mixed-race populations and those originating from the Asian continent. |
