Relatório de Estágio – Aprendizagem de Conceitos de Funções com Recurso a Tarefas Exploratórias e a Tecnologias
| Resumo: | The present internship report is divided in two parts: the first is dedicated to the internship report conducted as part of supervised pedagogical practice, while the second addresses the research conducted within the context of pedagogical practice. The internship took place throughout the academic year of 2022/2023, within two classes. A main class of 10th grade students and a secondary class of 9th grade students. The first part of the report includes a brief description of the classes, lessons taught, activities carried out, and a reflection on pedagogical practice will be presented. In the second part, the research aims to understand the learning of new concepts in the topic of Functions, taught in 10th grade on the subject Mathematics A, by formulating conjectures in a qualitative investigation with an interpretive paradigm, using exploratory tasks. To achieve these objectives, the following research questions were addressed: i) how is the formulation of conjectures characterized from exploratory tasks; ii) how does the formulation of conjectures influence the learning of new concepts; iii) what is the role of new technologies in the learning of new mathematical concepts. A qualitative methodology was followed, considering four case studies. The data collection took place through the application of three tasks at three different moments, and a semi-structured interview applied to the case studies. The three tasks involved content of 10thgrade curriculum and were applied before teaching the content in the classroom context. The research concludes that students encounter difficulties in formulating conjectures if not properly guided, leading them to observe superficial facts instead of relating function parameters to their graphs. The difficulty of expressing ideas clearly and communicating mathematically also affected the formulation of meaningful conjectures. On the other hand, testing and verifying conjectures proved to be an important factor in the learning of new mathematical concepts. This exploratory approach had a positive impact on the understanding of function translations, unlike contractions and dilations of function graphs. The use of the graphing calculator has proven to be a valuable asset in learning new mathematical concepts, but, on its own, does not guarantee learning, as the lack of accuracy and misinterpretation of graphs can negatively affect students' learning." |
