More than a gut feeling: a case series on ENT manifestations of Crohn’s disease

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Abstract Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic transmural inflammatory bowel disease that usually affects the distal ileum and colon, but may occur in any part of the gastrointestinal tract. Extraintestinal manifestations (EIM) occur in up to 40% of patients and usually affect the joints, skin, hepatobiliary tract and eyes. Non-specific oral lesions like aphthous ulcers are relatively common, but other specific oral and facial lesions, as well as nasal and ear involvement are considered rare. This case series presents three patients with CD and different forms of associated ENT manifestations - aphthous stomatitis, orofacial granulomatosis, nasal involvement including septal perforation and autoimmune inner ear disease. With this report we hope to contribute to a better understanding of these conditions and their interaction with CD, helping in their recognition and proper multidisciplinary management.
