| Resumo: | This paper establishes a dialogue amongst visual and literary narratives, drawing on Paula Regos intricate series of art compositions which she has been fearlessly creating over the years in a constant interweaving process with fellow artists and writers, classic and contemporary, Portuguese or British. Italo Calvinos essay on Visibility (Six memos for the next millenium, 1988) will provide a structural guideline to our analysis and Balzacs tale Le chef doeuvre inconnu (1845), will be comparatively discussed as an intriguing reflection on the nature of the work of art, the search for aesthetic perfection and the irrepresentability of the sublime, through the allegory of the feminine. |
