| Resumo: | Essential oil of Juniperus phoenicea (Cupressaceae) is extracted from the natural plant collected in Morocco. Extracted by distillation, its inhibiting action on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M acidic media has been investigated by weight loss and various electrochemical techniques. Obtained results reveal that this naturally occurring substance is a very good inhibitor. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with the oil content, attaining 83% at 1500 ppm. The oil of Juniperus phoenicea acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. The adsorption isotherm and the thermodynamic data of adsorption and activation are herein determined and discussed. |
