Citizenship promotion: results in health
| Resumo: | Introduction Noncommunicable diseases in Portugal are one of the greatest health challenge. Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes represent the largest global burden of disease, the leading cause of death of the general population and the leading cause of death of the population between 30 and 69 years. Development The projections of the probability of dying from these diseases before the age of 70 in Portugal by 2025 point to the possibility of a decrease. However, additional measures are needed in order to achieve the target of 25% reduction of premature mortality by 2025, according to the commitment signed in the General Health Assembly in 2013. Conclusions As proposed by the National Health Plan: review and extension to 2020, promotion of citizenship in health is a strategic axel. The National Program of Health Education, Literacy and Self-care can contribute significantly to achieve the health targets in Portugal. |
