Effects of music therapy on patients admitted to intensive care units: a scoping review
| Resumo: | Introduction: Hospitalization, especially in intensive care units, can be an anxiety-producing experience for many patients. In this context, the implementation of complementary non-pharmacological therapies, such as music therapy, is relevant to minimizing the negative impacts of this hospital environment. Objective/s: To identify the available evidence on the effects of music therapy on patients in intensive care units. Methods: This is a scoping review, using PubMed, CINAHL complete, Scopus and ScienceDirect databases. The Boolean method was used based on cross-referencing the descriptors: music therapy, intensive care unit, nursing care and adults. The PCC method was adopted, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Seven articles were included, which indicated that music therapy has positive effects on hospitalized patients, pointing to benefits in clinical treatment. Conclusion: As well as being a low-cost treatment, music therapy is easy to apply, helps to create a therapeutic environment that is favorable to the recovery of critically ill patients and positively influences patient satisfaction levels. |
