Ver documento

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease with a high global prevalence that can often lead to neurological complications. Involvement of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) by diabetes includes sensory-motor polyneuropathy (PNP), small fiber neuropathy, autonomic neuropathy, lumbosacral radiculoplexopathy, cranial neuropathies and compressive mononeuropathies. Regarding central nervous system (CNS) complications, these can be divided into chronic, namely cerebrovascular disease and cognitive deterioration, and acute, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, stroke mimics, hemichorea-hemiballismus, altered state of consciousness and epileptic seizures. The aim of this narrative review is to summarise the various neurological complications of DM, with particular interest in clinical presentation and diagnosis.
