View document

Bibliographic Details
Summary:Adopting a culture focused on disaster risk management is a major challenge. Given the various actions related to emergency preparedness, the installation of risk signs in the relevant regions stands out. Of all the self-protection elements, it stands out as the simplest and quickest to perceive, in addition to materializing the work carried out to map and identify risks. In this context, this article sets out to reflect on the need to create a national risk and disaster signage system aimed at standardizing the graphic representation of the Brazilian Disaster Coding (COBRADE). For the formulation and production of the knowledge presented, national and international manuals and documents related to the topic were studied, using an exploratory and qualitative approach based on the deductive and comparative method. Considering the literature studied and the various examples and models of risk signs in the region, it can be seen that there is no national standardization. Compared with other situations, such as traffic regulation for vehicles and pedestrians, it is clear that implementing standardization facilitates people's perception and creates the necessary interaction between the abstract model of mapping and the concrete perception of people who live in or pass through a certain location that is classified as a risk area.
