The mapping of the risk area downstream of lake Igapó in Londrina - PR - Brazil, in the hypothetical case of failure of the dam

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Igapó Lake is a leisure area in Londrina, in the State of Paraná, Brazil. It is one of the newest areas of the city. In the past five years, large amounts of water from heavy rain have led to the water level reaching the capacity of the dam. Thus, this work set out to use geographic information system (GIS) software to produce slope maps and classification maps with a potential risk area. The thematic maps created provide a scenario according to the classification of areas at risk of rupture of the Igapó Lake dam. The base map allowed the selection of a contour of 525 meters for this elevation going around the lake for almost all its length up to the edge of the urban area of Londrina. Even though it was found that the water decreases at the 525 elevation along course of the Lake, the impact on the 525 elevation will be maintained. However, the impact will be greater on lower elevations, especially those below 515 meters. Thus, the classes of land use make it possible to identify the vulnerable areas and thus indicate places that can be classified as low and high risk areas.
