Cultural attractions for a diversification of tourism in Ibiza
| Resumo: | Ibiza is an island in the Western Mediterranean of 571.76 km2 and more than 140,000 inhabitants, characterized by its strong economic dependence on tourism. Nowadays, Ibiza is internationally known for its supply of sun and beach tourism, and nightlife. In addition, with the new century it saw a refocusing of the supply to the luxury tourism. But other tourist typologies have a testimonial or no presence in the supply. This paper presents a description of the main elements of the island cultural heritage, its uniqueness and the successes and mistakes in management are performed, using the methodology of the case study. The heritage of the island is composed of architecture, landscape and local culture. Among the most notable elements are monuments, some inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO and others of great originality and archaism, cultural landscapes, and folk elements. In particular, the cultural heritage of Ibiza can be divided into four elements: the historic town of Ibiza; rural architecture; cultural landscapes, and traditional culture. Are successes in managing the restoration of some goods such as walls or rural churches and are important errors the administrative obstacles to the owners of the property preserved. As a conclusion, it should be noted that the cultural heritage is not sufficiently well preserved and is a tourist supply that has not been adequately promoted by the destination managers. |
