The role of tourism events in accommodation and hotel units and restaurants and drinks in the city of Torres Vedras: the case of Carnival

Resumo:This paper analyzed the importance of tourism events in the city of Torres Vedras, particularly with the carnival case study. Methodologically, beyond the necessary literature review, interviews were conducted to 7 public entities and applied 5 questionnaires to private entities of hotel accommodation and 48 questionnaires to the food and beverage, in order to collect data on the actual effect of the Carnival in the city in question. It was concluded that, in most cases, the Carnival of Torres Vedras ends up representing an asset to the city and to the county at a socio-economic level. Of course, there was not always unanimously by the interviewed agents, as some have claimed to some excessive and abusive behavior by certain groups of Carnival tourists in this city.
