Resumo:Given the competitiveness of the labour market and the importance of quality in the provision of services, we have several educational institutions whose training is for tourism, whether higher education courses, technologists or technicians. Even so, there are incompatibilities regarding the performance in the labour market. The sector absorbs professionals from other areas and even people who have no training or even a professional course. The present work aims to identify the characteristics of the workforce that participates in qualification courses in the hotel industry in Ouro Preto. As a result, it was possible to detect that non-regular courses and programs are important tools for professional training and qualification, especially courses for waiters, chambermaids, and general public attendance. In the specific case of PRONATEC courses, 52 questionnaires were applied, which allowed detecting that the selection process to enroll in the courses was random, with little participation of those who are employed in the sector, likewise regarding the list of courses offered for Ouro Preto. In these terms, the survey, which is still in process, points to the need to conduct research on the supply and demand for training and qualification courses for tourism in the city.
