The importance of websites in the dissemination of environmental sustainability in 4 and 5 star hotels in Portugal continental

Resumo:Tourism has been one of the main economic activities at global level. In this context, it is important the adoption of strategies that provide sustainable and responsible growth. Knowing that, the existing hotel units are responsible for the emission of polluting factors to the environment, the objective of this article is to verify the (in)existence of environmental sustainable practices that promote a better conduct, and if the same is translated in the form of customer comments. Being in a technological era this research focused on the analysis of hotel websites for the verification of the (in)existence of sustainable practices regarding four and five star hotels in Mainland Portugal in a total of 501 four star hotels and 155 five star hotels through an approach based on netnography. It was verified that not all hotels, independently of the number of stars, effectively communicate their practices.
