| Resumo: | Chiari malformation type 1 is a frequent finding in patients with craniosynostosis. The performance of suboccipital decompression as a standard treatment has been progressively questioned. Two symptomatic patients presenting multiple suture craniosynostosis associated Chiari malformation type 1 underwent cranial vault expansion using spring-mediated distraction at an early age (at 2 and 6 weeks). A complete resolution of Chiari symptoms was observed postoperatively and the postoperative cervical spine magnetic resonance imaging showed adequate decompression of the craniocervical junction. Spring mediated distraction at an early age may be an efficient solution to address symptomatic multisutural craniosynostosis associated Chiari malformation type 1. |
