Resumo:In 2011, the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in the Portuguese ranging from 20 to 79 years was 12.7%, with a large tendency to increase. Because diabetes is a disease with high national and global prevalence, pharmaceutical companies and health services have heavily invested in the areas of prevention and treatment. Accordingly, medical devices related to this disease have an increasingly higher importance, in order to minimize the large majority of the difficulties caused by monitoring and treatment of this type of metabolic disorders. More specifically, the area of medical devices has proved to be an important benefit for the fields of diagnostics and therapeutics in several diseases that otherwise could not be treated. The evolution of these devices has also accompanied the enormous progress made in various areas of health, mostly due to increased integration with new technologies and computer systems. More recently, the Needle-free treatment systems and the Walkinsense monitoring systems have increasingly turn into a major impact feature for the improvement of diabetic patient’s life quality. Therefore, an increasing number of studies have been conducted in order to substantially improve not only the quality of life but also on the therapeutic compliance of patients with Diabetes.
