Sífilis : abordagem de uma doença antiga com uma perspectiva moderna
| Resumo: | Syphilis is an infectious disease inserted into the group of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) that when left untreated, progresses to a chronic multisystem disease. Syphilis remains a public health problem, with currently 36 million cases worldwide and over 11 million new cases annually, including both youth and women. This work aims at a revision that approaches Syphilis in a modern way relatively to diagnosis, treatment and future prospects of this disease, with the purpose of elaborating an updated protocol for neonatology. There is no consensus regarding the diagnosis and treatment algorithm. Despite the advanced molecular tests, the nontreponemal tests continue to be important in the follow-up of the patient and Penicillin maintains as the preferred therapy for all stages of Syphilis. Currently scientific research in the area of this pathology has many limitations in the diagnosis as well as in the treatment which motivates the existence of international protocols with very little consensus. |
