The roots of the China mission during Matteo Ricci’s time: science, diplomacy and local networks

Resumo:An international conference on the “Roots of the China Mission during Matteo Ricci’s Time: Science, Diplomacy and Local Networks”was held at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon on 10 to 11 December 2010. It commemorated the fourth centenary of the death of Matteo Ricci S.J. (Macerata 1552 - Beijing 1610). This initiative was jointly organised by three Portuguese research units: the Centre for Overseas History of the New University of Lisbon and the University of the Azores (CHAM-UNL and UAç), the Centre for Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon (CEG-UL) and the Inter-University Centre for the History of Science and Technology of the University of Lisbon (CIUHCT-UL). The event also benefited from the collaboration of the Italian Institute for Culture and the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
