Boas práticas a desenvolver em fase de projecto de arquitectura para a adaptação de edifícios existentes a museus
| Resumo: | This dissertation addresses the problem of adapting existing buildings to museums and the consequent relationship between architecture and museology. The aim is to understand and diagnose obstacles in adapting buildings to a new function and program that are distinct and demanding when comparing to their previous occupation, as well as to find answers and solutions to such chalenges, outlining the information in a way that is accessible to both stakeholders and architectural project users, covering a vast and heterogeneous range of individuals involved such as architects, museologists, contractors or engineers, amongst others. Defending that it must be prevented in the earliest possible stage any inconsistencies or gaps in the realisation of a museum, this thesis intends to identify and list the basic factors to be taken into consideration when preparing an architectural design project, aiming to achieve a greater degree of success in the adaptation of existing buildings to museums. As an example, we present the case of the Evora Museum, which is housed in a building dating back to the first quarter of the twentieth century that has undergone several adaptations, the last one a work of the architectural design project of architect Raul Ferreira Hestnes. The work took place between the years 2004 and 2009 when the Evora Museum reopened to the public |
