Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:The Exported Wave is a sound art project (sound installation) based on the regeneration of the wave and soundscape of Praia do Norte, a wild environment that is now vulnerable due to its global exposure. This research addresses the importance of listening and of field recordings in the identification of environmental concerns, highlighting the role of sound art in the realm of Acoustic Ecology. Apart from exploring the contributions of authors such as R. Murray Schafer or Barry Truax, this research extends its scope by including analyses of contemporary works by artists such as Jana Winderen or Chris Watson, providing a wide-ranging perspective on the intersection between artistic expression and field practices. This research focuses on understanding the relationship between the concept of the sublime as theorized by Edmund Burke, associated with the romantic period, and Barnett Newman's perspective of a new sublime, which proposes transcendence in the rupture with traditional practices, encouraging in-depth reflections without relying on the visual representation of natural elements. In this context, this project is presented as an artistic proposal orientated towards the search for a hypothesis of a sonic sublime. This definition could go further than the simple act of contemplating a sound object, by promoting the viewer's involvement in Acoustic Ecology practices, thereby raising their emotional awareness of the environmental and cultural impact of the sound of origin. Finally, the project materializes in a sound installation that suggests the transportation of the colossal wave of Praia do Norte to an art gallery, giving it a new form and making it accessible. In its new space, the aim is to promote the emotional recovery of this wave after its sound restoration, which released it from anthropomorphic contamination and restored its historical and cultural value.
