Parotidite supurativa neonatal : caso clínico
| Resumo: | The neonatal suppurative parotitis is a bacterial infection in the parotid gland. This disease is rare with approximately 150 cases described between 1878 and 2013 and a incidence of 3,8/10000 hospital admissions for newborns. It is more common between the 7th and 14th day of life, in males, prematures and newborns with low weight at birth. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and it is based on three main criteria: presence of inflammatory signs confined to the region of the parotid gland, drainage of purulent material through the Stenon duct and isolation of the etiological agent in the culture of the pus drained. The agent most frequently isolated is Staphylococcus aureus. The therapy with empirical and early antibiotherapy usually leads do the complete resolution of the symptoms, except in rare cases where surgical drainage is needed. The prognosis is excellent. In this article I describe a clinical case of neonatal suppurative parotitis diagnosed at Hospital Santa Maria. |
